Thanksgiving can be wonderful holiday. I start every holiday with the Macy's Day Parade in New York. The balloons, floats, and entertainment are special and unique. This year for the first time. The South Shore Drill Team performed in the parade. This phenomenal group stresses education, hard-work and dedication. There performance today made the residents of Chicago very proud. Today I am the librarian at King School. I worked with students in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. The students learned how to pick a "Just Right" book. We watched a video and then took a test using the iPads and Kahoot software. It was a blast. I hope the students had a good time. Thanksgiving is just two days away. Hurray! This weekend has been a technology overload for me. I am very impressed with apps for my iPad. One is Doceri. I downloaded it two years ago to interact with my Smartboard. I then downloaded the trial software for my school computer. Now I found out that I can use the iPad version for making flip videos. I also found Educreations and Knowmia. Knowmia has face recording. Technology is wonderful! All apps are free for basic use. Today the students attended an assembly on internet safety. The students seemed to enjoy it very much. I have links for internet safety on Mind University. One that is interactive and lots of fun is Webonauts on PBS. The students go on an adventure through internet safety and good citizenship. If you choose to go on this journey, give yourself at least 30 minutes to complete. Click here to get to the website.

National Young Readers Day Today the staff and students at Washington School participated in a special celebration. Each class was treated to a special reader. The celebrity readers read stories to the classes and conducted book talks. Two students won the bookmark contest, Jaranise Gowder from 2nd grade and Mahli Atwater from 5th grade. I will post the pictures of this important event in the near future. Thank you to the reading committee (Ms. Duhig, Mrs. Midlock, Mrs. Joan Payne, Mrs. Hampton, and Mrs. Jackson) for all of their hard work. This special combination of month, day, and year will appear only one more time this century. Did you do anything special on this date? I was not in my school building on this date. That is all I will say.
To all the Veterans of all the wars and those still serving in all the branches of the service...I salute you. On the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, World War I ended. Do you have special memories of Veterans or service members in your family? Please post them to my comment section. Here are some Veteran links. |
