February is so exciting...Valentine's Day, Winter Olympics, Black History Month, Chinese New Year. I hope you take time to learn about all of them.
The Theme for Black History Month is Black Health and Wellness. I have created some Black History Trading Cards featuring African-Americans who have added to our lives through their work in medicine, health, and fitness. You can add your own cards to the collection by creating your own trading cards. (See trading card template on the Black History page.) Enjoy the month and feel free to share what you've learned through this blog. Happy New Year!
On my home page you can listen to two great books about WORDS. Martin Luther King used words very powerfully in his quest for Civil Rights. Doreen Rappaport wrote Martin's Big Words to show how powerful his speeches were over 60 years ago and how they are still important now. Stacy Abrams carries on Dr. King's legacy. In her first picture book, Stacey's Extraordinary Words she shares how important reading and words were to her as she grew up. Here are questions to think about as you listen to these two stories. 1. How are these books alike and how are they different? 2. Which book did you like the best? Tell why. 3. Which person as a child, is more you like you? Tell why. 4. Share how you feeling about reading. What special words would you write in your notebook? Please share your answers in the comment section. Be sure to include your first name and your age or grade level. How are you celebrating the season? Are you visiting family out of town? Does someone cook a special meal?

Today is Mickey's birthday. He is 93 years old. You can leave birthday wishes for him in the comment section. Thank you to the students who were able to teach Botley to talk and follow the Black Lines. Click on pictures to make them larger. Welcome back! We are returning from an unplanned fall break. Some of our Botley activities will be put on hold until another time of the year. This month is Native American Heritage Month. Here are 10 commonly used inventions used today.
One of our lessons this semester will be about building bridges! I am looking forward to your creations! I will include Native American scientist and inventions in future blogs.
The students have been programming Botley for three weeks. I believe they are having great success. The more they learn about coding and programming, the more fun they are having in their groups. Here is a sample from Mrs. Young's first grade class. |
