Sustainable by Design

It takes a lot of time, energy and resources to make the things that we use in our lives like our clothes, toys, furniture, etc. We can protect Earth's resources for the future by making things that last longer, repairing things when they break and repurposing or upcycling. Repurposing is when you use something old for a whole new purpose. Up-cycling is when you take something old and make it better so you can keep using it.
Watch the For Real segment from Sustainable By Design where Kimmie makes a design center out of recycled tin cans. Think about how up-cycling or repurposing will help the environment.
Cyberchase: Sustainable by Design (2:55)
Your challenge is to up-cycle or repurpose an object or objects around your home. Submit your project to Ms. White by Tuesday May 10 or Thursday May 12.
*NOTE: If you are using cans, be careful of sharp edges. Ask an adult for help.
