I think Opal is not lonely anymore because she has made new friends. Sweetie Pie likes her right away. Of course, she has Winn-Dixie and now she has a job. Opal seems to also have a better relationship with her dad.
When I was in high school, I felt like an outsider at times. Many of my friends had money and I didn't. My senior year I couldn't go to the class trip. Most of my friends had access to cars. We didn't even own a car. I decided that I would be the funny person. I made people laugh, so then I didn't feel so much like an outsider. Lots of folks wanted to be my friend because I was so "nutty". |
